Island Time has been building Adirondack chairs and outdoor furniture for over eight years. Every product has been 100% hand crafted. Most products are made of cypress, long lasting and naturally humidity tolerant lumber.
Cypress may be left natural, unfinished. If directly exposed to sun and rain, unfinished cypress will over time gracefully weather and turn silverish-grayish in color. This chair was left natural and has been exposed to Florida sun and rain for over seven years.
If you want to avoid the above weathered look, then staining would be recommended. Island Time sells and uses top quality, environmentally safe Penofin products. To learn more, check: www.penofin.com.

Painting is also an option. Many colors are available. We use exterior latex paints and primer.
Keep your painted cypress chair away from sprinklers, grass and other areas where moisture has an opportunity to continuously soak into the wood. In such case, we offer any painted product to be made of pressure treated wood, which will endure high exposure to moisture.
In addition to cypress and pressure treated wood, we offer most Island Time Adirondack chairs and outdoor furniture products to be made of composite lumber. We use Trex (www.trex.com), recycled composite lumber products. This chair is made of Trex:
We also use Azek (www.azek.com), PVC based, environmentally friendly composite lumber, These two chairs are made of Azek,
which comes in various tones.
These composite lumber materials are recommended for commercial and residential use where extreme weather conditions are present. For example, high commercial usage, extreme exposure to continuous high levels of moisture, sun and rain. Composite lumber is maintenance free, environmentally friendly and has a long life expectancy.
We use only stainless steel screws and bolts. Most products come "plugged" (screws hidden with wooden pegs) for aesthetic appearance.
All products come with Captain's Insignia (TM), the iron burnt-in parrot emblem. Captain's Insignia(TM) signifies our respect for nature and striving to preserve its beauty.
